Don
graduated from the California State University, Long Beach, in
1978 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy, and received
his certification in Athletic Training from the National Athletic
Trainers Association in 1979. He is board certified in
Orthopedic Physical Therapy and was named one of the first Full
Fellows in the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical
Therapy.
Additionally, he has certification by the
International Seminar of Orthopaedic Medicine/Manipulative
Therapy.
Don has 26 years experience in outpatient
physical therapy, including 8 years experience as a college
athletic trainer. Prior to joining Sacramento Knee & Sports
Medicine, Don co-opened Folsom Physical Therapy in 1984, and
continued to be a core faculty member of the Folsom Physical
Therapy Long Term Orthopedic Manual Therapy Course through 2002.
He has also been a faculty member at California State University,
Sacramento; he has been teaching short courses in Orthopedic
Manual Therapy for over 16 years. Don is on staff at Sutter
General Hospital.
Don is the co-owner of Torrey-Nickerson
Physical Therapy. Working in tandem with the physicians of
Sacramento Knee & Sports Medicine since 1989, Don’s practice focus
is rehabilitation management of the knee, shoulder, and elbow
injuries. He has long been a proponent of home therapy
programs, providing expertise in pre-surgical counseling, and
re-enforcement in post-surgical follow-up.
In 1986, Don was an athletic trainer at the
United States Pan American Games. An avid bicycle rider, Don
has completed the Death Ride 6 times, and in October, 2004,
rode in Lance Armstrong’s cancer benefit ride in Austin, Texas.
